THE MICHIGAN B&B EXPERIENCE
Travel in Michigan provides endless opportunities to visit
spectacular destinations to satisfy the interests of a wide range
travelers. On this site alone, you can find dozens of places to go and
things to do that are both near and far. When traveling the decision
about lodging is important. The variety of lodging available is broad
for both traditional and non-traditional venues. Selecting the wrong
place to stay can ruin an otherwise great trip. You might enjoy a
Bed and Breakfast.
UNIQUE - If you haven't stayed at a
Michigan Bed & Breakfast, it may be time to try one out. You may be
surprised at what you find. While each is a B&B, all of them are unique
with their own character and ambiance. From the simple to the luxurious,
this variety will encourage you to stay in different B&B's all over
Michigan.
PRIVACY - While it is true that all
B&B's have common areas available. You don't have to use them anymore
than you have to use the lobby of a motel. If you want to meet and
interact with the other guests, you can, but privacy is important and if
you are after a quiet time alone, every B&B specializes in providing
that. You will find a guest entrance and can come and go as you please.
THE BATH - Traditional European
style B&B's do have bath facilities that are shared just as in your own
home. However, there are fewer and fewer of these and most B&B's today,
offer private baths in-room. Remember that many B&B's are historic
buildings and great effort is made to preserve the historic charm.
Some inns have added jet tubs, whirlpools and, in rare cases, heated
floors.
THE BED - Here again you may be
surprised at the variety that is available in even the smallest B&B.
Most innkeepers have rooms with King, Queen or twin beds and the
mattresses are of the very highest quality. You will sleep like a rock
in most cases.
THE BREAKFAST - Too good to be true
is the norm. Each innkeeper does their own thing and most have developed
recipes that are unique. You will find simple fair and you will find
romantic candlelit breakfasts served on china and crystal. The food is
one of the things that makes each B&B unique so be sure to check. Almost
all innkeepers are prepared for special requests and dietary
requirements. Some places have a common dining table and some offer
private tables, take your pick.
THE CHILDREN - Some B&B's are very
kid friendly while others cater to adult travelers. Many have room
combinations that are perfect for families and will discuss price with
you for children. Be sure to check with the innkeeper, he or she can
direct you to the best B&B for your needs.
AMENITIES - You can have it any way
you want it. Television or none, phones or none, free internet access or
not and the list goes on. The traditional B&B experience is designed to
help you leave the modern world behind but, most now offer a mix of
services. I travel on business and stay at B&B's all the time. If you
need local information, the innkeeper will know where to go and what to
do and will probably have maps, coupons and contacts.
THE PRICE - You are in for another
pleasant surprise. Michigan Bed and Breakfasts are not expensive and in
many cases are less money than the chain companies, especially off
season. When you factor in the beautiful rooms, the personal service,
the privacy and the incredible food, you will realize that a B&B is
probably a better value.
THE SERVICE - When all is said and
done service is the thing. Nothing is warmer than the welcome you will
receive at a Michigan B&B. Your every desire is catered to and you will
find that you can get to know people or just enjoy your own private
romantic time together. When you return you will be remembered and will
be greeted as a returning friend rather than as a returning reservation.
Your preferences will be remembered yet, you will know that you will
find the same high standards every time; whatever the season. As a
rule, you won't find elevators, there is no room service and you will
handle your own baggage.
WHEN YOU GO - Your expectations will be surpassed when it comes to quality and comfort. While you will be staying in someone's home, you won't be living with the innkeepers; privacy and charm are yours. Please keep in mind that many B&B's are furnished with antiques and excellent art, if you travel with children remind them of their manners and be mindful of the other guests. Most B&B's don't have late checkout. Be sure to call ahead about pets.
